Simon Penn’s viva success

Please join us in congratulating our EdD student and WELS colleague Simon Penn, who successfully defended his thesis entitled ‘A comparative analysis of the comprehension of text and screencast feedback by distance learning students’. The examiners recommended a pass without corrections.

The panel chair noted that the three examiners were impressed with the quality of Simon’s thesis and his strong performance at the viva. Furthermore, the examiners described Simon’s responses as showing a solid knowledge of the field and defending his arguments well. Simon is set to become the first graduate of the Professional Doctorate programme.

The examiners were Professor Naomi Winston (University of Surrey), Dr Monika Pazio Rossiter (Imperial College London), and Professor Karen Kear (The Open University). The panel chair was Dr Inma Alvarez Puente. Geraldine Boyle was the observer. Simon’s supervisors were Maria Fernandez-Toro and myself.

Congratulations Simon!
